What makes the Springfield 586 unique:We are proud to present this incredible watch, originally produced by the Illinois Watch Company, our Springfield 586. This antique 19-jewel pocket watch has been converted into a machined titanium case, with a gold plated crown and our comfortable oxblood cordovan leather strap. We are first drawn in by all of the wonderful gold-colored details of this watch, especially these incredibly unique and playful numerals. The dial is also accented by gold open-kite hands, that help to accent the gold-plated crown and hardware. As we turn this watch over to reveal the movement within, gold-plated gears stand out beneath the highly decorated bridge plates. This 19-jewel piece is transcribed with the Transit grade markings with copper inlay and features brass hardware throughout.
The movement inside of this watch was originally produced by the Illinois Watch Company in Springfield, Illinois in 1920. Also in In 1920, the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, granting women the right to vote. The amendment had been proposed in Congress in 1878, but it was not until the women’s suffrage movement gained momentum in the early 1900s that it was finally passed. The amendment was a major victory for women’s rights, and it marked the beginning of a new era of political participation for women in the United States.
